Serving Adults, Couples, and Groups in Hartford, CT - Jule Michel, LCSW, LLC

What to expect if you come to my office

First Meeting: During the first meeting I will answer all questions you might have. We will also figure out, whether my skills and philosophy are a good match for your concerns. Last, but not least: we will review my practice policies and payment options.

Initial Assessment and Treatment Planning: In our second meeting I will listen more deeply to your concerns and life story, as well as how you want your life to be different. This conversation will inform us in setting goals for our work together.

Individual Therapy: During each session I  will provide a safe and supportive space for you to explore your thoughts, feelings, intentions, and actions. I practice client-directed, outcome informed psychotherapy. This means that you are the expert for every step you take in your therapy, while I offer suggestions and insights. We will also talk about how you are and how treatment is working for you regularly to ensure that what we are doing really helps you in getting better over all. Here you can learn more about my treatment approaches.

Couples/Family Therapy: My work with couples/families is based on the notion that the people closest to us are one of our most valuable teachers. Relationships are more pleasurable and stronger if each person knows themselves well, communicates openly, and manages conflicts in a way that increases intimacy. You will be invited to learn and practice new (communication-) skills like non-violent communication, to create solution focused contracts, and to practice forgiveness toward yourself and the people you care most about.

Mediation: Mediation is a conflict resolution method designed to resolve circumscribed conflicts within couples, families, or groups. In mediation the conflict parties are invited to communicate constructively, to understand the needs behind their positions, and to develop win-win solutions. The mediator facilitates this process but is strictly neutral toward the outcome, as long as it is ethically responsible.

Group Work: My groups are based on the social group work model that fosters mutual aid. I accept max. 10 members in a group to ensure the development of trust and to secure space for active participation. If you are interested in joining a group we will first meet individually to determine if the group meets your needs.
